Fine wine and women at the Gropevine

WORDS AND PHOTOS BY BUSHY

Driving into the heart of South Australia's wine country, the first thing I thought of were couples holding hands and farting hearts at each other as they escape for a dirty weekend of sipping free goon at one of the many wineries.

But who would have thought that smack bang in the middle of the picturesque Barrossa Valley would house the Roaring Lion home compound of one of Australia's most underrated Aussie FMXer's?

Adam Grope and his crew were about to serve us some fine FMX wine.

Rolling in convoy with Gropey's newest sponsor Roaring Lion Energy Drinks, a black Hummer loaded with a couple of their finest looking lionesses and the HGMtv assault vehicle we wind down a dirt road too emerge on the Gropey Compound that was nestled in rows of goon grapes.

Now the South OZ FMX crew deserves a lot of respect: while most of the guys who ride together have to travel only a few hours at most to hook up and have a ride, these guys are literally many hours away from each other.

And I reckon that in this case it works well as these guys once a month travel down to the Gropey ramps and bring something fresh with them each time.

Ready to pop the cork on this place were central Australia's ripper Sam Balnaves, Port Lincoln's style king Dylan Puckeridge, and resident ripper Ben Burford and they were all keen to tear the joint a new one.

With cherry picker on hand, the boys rode their guts out and it wasn't long before the Roaring Lion Ladies were shaking their shit cheering them on as they tricked their way into the afternoon sun.

Gropey was busy shooting a profile section for the upcoming HGMtv show as I was knocking off the eski and shooting some of Oz's most underrated FMX freaks.

There was definitely no time for romance in this joint.

NOTE: Look out for a section on the Gropevine in Holtzy's brand-new television series, HGMtv, which will start airing on Fuel TV from July 7!
