10 Questions and 10 Shots with Destin Cantrell

DC 2738

By Matt Hutchinson

During my recent trip to the US of A I caught up with Destin Cantrell, once again, for a photo shoot and a chat to find out what the guy has been up to lately and what he has in store for the 2012 season.

Hey Destin, it's been about 18 months since our last shoot, what's been happening?

Yeah bud it has been a while and was awesome hanging with you again. I have just been enjoying life man. Riding a ton more since I moved to Murrieta, CA. Just trying to stay busy with riding and trying to make a buck or two.

How was your 2011 season?

2011 was fun to say the least! I just tried to have a blast and live everyday at a time. I'm excited for 2012 though.

You've got new gear, new sponsors and a new bike since the last time I saw you, why the change to a Kawasaki?

Yeah I ended up finding my way onto a Kawi 450 this year mainly just to freshen up the look and try out something else and see if my riding improves. I rode my friend Jake Weimer's bike and instantly felt comfortable on it so I pulled the trigger.

And which sponsors have jumped on board for 2012?

I just signed a deal with FMF apparel for 2012 along with Etnies and Fly Racing. I am beyond happy to have support and backing from such amazing companies and cannot thank them enough.

You must be pretty stoked on all the support that you continue to get?

Yeah I am so blessed on all the companies that keep believing in me and giving me the opportunities to ride to my fullest. I love each and every one of them.

Last year you were working pretty hard for an invite to Best Whip at X Games, are you still focused on that for 2012?

You know to be honest it would be awesome to FINALLY get into it but I feel like that door is slowly closing. If I end up getting in, awesome but I'm not going to stress over it. I'm just going to have fun and hopefully learn some new things.

Are your whips something that you put a lot of time into?

I do practice everyday and definitely do a lot of whips during practice but I usually go through all of my stuff equally. Whips are for sure more fun though (Laughs).

Any other big plans for 2012?

Learn something NEW.

How about a trip down to Australia?

Man I would LOVE to come to Aus and ride. For sure would be a dream. We will see what happens.

Thanks for the catch up Destin, is there anyone that you would like to thank?

Yeah! Thank you to all of my fans in Aus, if I have any (laughs) and to all of my sponsors for 2012:

FMF Apparel, BTO Sports, Etnies, Race Tech, ODI Grips, Bel Ray, Shoei, Zeta, DRC, K&N, Warp 9, RK, Vortex, Enjoy mfg, Dragon, Galfer, Rockwell Watches and Dunlop.
