Catching Up With Cam Sinclair
by gobadirt.com
Canberra stop of the Nitro Circus Live tour provided more spills and thrills than the promoters would have liked, and by the end of the night three of their moto stars were horizontal in a hospital bed either waiting surgery or a diagnosis of their injury. Travis Pastrana was admitted before the show even got underway, which meant Cam Sinclair had to step up for the Double that he wasn't scheduled to attempt again until the Gold Coast stop of the tour. With his head not fully dialed in he didn't quite get the rotation he needed and escaped from what could have been a repeat of his near fatal accident in Madrid, Spain, 18 months earlier. Steve Mini also had one of the biggest crashes of his career, and was also lucky to be carted off with not-so-serious injuries. We caught Cam on the phone as he was heading home to rest up to find out actually what went down in what was one of the craziest Nitro Circus shows to date!
Hey Cam, what's the deal, where you at: I just got out of hospital, for 12 hours I was dazed and confused not knowing where I was but I feel OK now.
You gave us all a big scare mate: Yeah lucky I was wearing my armour and was using the resi-mat.
Run us through what happened, do you even remember: No I don't really remember much, but Travis Pastrana pulled the pin five minutes before the show and went to the hospital to get his knee checked out, and I was not meant to Double Flip that show, not until the Gold Coast stop. So I had to step up with only five minutes before the show started. I thought I was fine with it, just the same as any other one I agreed too, but I guess I didn't really get my head around it properly. It didn't feel right as soon as I rode towards the ramp. During the rotation I knew I was going slow so I lent over to the side and landed on my shoulder and my head rather than landing front wheel first, which would have been a harder impact.
That was a smart move on your behalf: Yeah I figured that out after last time.

So this just highlights how much you need to be in the right head space to pull the Double off: Yeah it's crazy, and I've finally figured it out I think. After Madrid, Spain, I thought it was just a one off, but then had a crash on the tour in New Zealand and it's happened again now so it's definitely not a trick that gets easier the more you do it!
So where are you now mate, what's the plan: Just driving back home from the airport. I plan to see the Physio tomorrow (today now) and get my shoulder scanned to see what's up with it, even though I know its not broken.
This must have been a big scare for your wife Brooke yeah: Oh yeah for sure.
Sincs gave his misses Brooke another big scare!
So what's the go for Double Flipping in the future, will you go for it again or not: I still feel I want to get back in time for Townsville, which is another week and a half away. I'll just wait to see how the results go, and then take it from there. I'd like to do the last three shows, maybe I'll just take it easy and save the Double for X Games to give me more time to work on it.
It was a pretty crazy night with Steve Mini also having a big one: Yeah Mini had one of the biggest crashes I've ever seen. He did a Holy Grab to One Hand Indy then let go, but slipped off after grabbing back on and landed hard on his shoulder dislocating and fracturing it at the same time. When I woke up in hospital I was told both Mini and T.P were there too, (laughs!)

What actually happened to Travis: He crashed in the US before joining the tour and ruptured his knee real bad. Then just before the show he was in a lot of pain and was taken to hospital to find out he had a blood clot in his knee. With three of us out in one night it makes you realise how dangerous FMX really is.
Well you take it easy Cam and we hope to see you back on the bike soon: Yeah I'll let you guys know how I go after seeing the physio guys. Hopefully I'll be right to go by Townsville.
