2010 RFDmx Underground Tour
Round 1 Results
Project FMX Party
The Australian FMX competition season kicked off with a bang on the weekend with the first round of the RFDmx Underground Tour; The Project FMX Party in Rockhampton QLD.
Fifteen riders turned out to take up the challenge for the $2500 round 1 prize pool and series points up for grabs at the first of four rounds in this years Underground Tour.
The course that greeted the riders for the first round of the tour had to be seen to be believed. 2009 defending champion, Joe Sheppard said “This would have to be the best course for an Australian fmx competition I have ever seen.” The setup consisted of 6 different hits including a 110ft ramp jump, 90ft dirt kicker as well as a back to back 75ft ramp rhythm section.
The day started with a bit of a scare when the heavens opened up and it began to shower. But the rain quickly stoped and after a quick clean up job by the crew at project fmx it was straight into practise and qualifying. It was clear from the start that it was going to be a super tight competition with everyone riding extremely well on the technical course. Unit rider Adrien Shaban was showing awesome form with a huge range of combo’s to claim the top spot in qualifying. Other stand outs included Slur destructives Matty Lindores insane whips, Jason Rozycki’s huge extensions and Luke Saunders incredibly smooth style.

The tight competition continued into the head to head heats where judges had to split riders by the smallest of mistakes. But in the end the final three left to shoot it out in the final was Joe Sheppard, Jason Rozycki and Adrien Shaban. Joe took to the course first and threw down a great run showing why he was last years champion. Jason was next out and put together what can only be described as an amazing display of skilled riding, racing the course much to the dismay of the judges trying to keep up with what he was throwing down. Finally Adrien took to the course and was in the process of putting together yet another flawless run until a huge turndown whip nearly got the better of him as he landed sideways and short but still managed to ride it out. In the end it would be all that made the difference as Shaban conceded defeat to LKI’s Rozycki with Sheppard rounding out 3rd place. The bubbly was popped and the prize money handed out as the boys packed up to celebrate the night away in Rockhampton.
As the serries roles forward this weekend to Boonah QLD for the NMR invitational one things for sure there’ll be no holding back as riders will be keen to pip Jason off the top spot.
Huge thanks for round 1 have to go out to all our great sponsors and especially Project FMX for putting together such an unbelievably amazing course.
