Maddo Breaks Through In Madrid

On and off another jetplane, one more to go and I'll be back in Brisbane after what was a mind blowing Red Bull X-Fighters event in Madrid, Spain, at the famous Plaza De Toros, a venue that packs to the sky full of passionate Spainards that just love their freestyle motocross. Just being inside the venue and experiencing the atmosphere when the riders take to the course gives you goose bumps, never have I felt the electricity and energy at a freestyle competition so strong, and for the Aussies a great result with Robbie "Maddo" Maddison taking out his first win of the season in what was one of the closest competitions of the series so far, “The Volt Body Varial definitely helped me win,” he grinned after his victory, adding “I still can’t believe it!”.

It really came down to the wire in the final and Maddo just edged out Mat Rebeaud, who is finding his way back into form after a string of accidents that has kept him from the level we all expect. Third place, and the Mr consistent rider of the series so far, Andre Villa, still holds the series lead and will have to work hard for the win in the closing rounds to keep his lead alive with guys like Maddo and Rebeaud making their charge towards the end, and with Nate Adams returning in London.

Calm before the storm for the judges, who had to work hard at Madrid with such fierce competition. gobadirt.com

There were many highlights, and some low moments, one low being Levi Sherwood's bike bogging at his first run out of the tunnel towards the big 110-foot hit, he was lucky to still get enough speed to clear the gap, but his Dead Sailor pretty much put him out of the competition against Maddo in Rd 1. That head to head was always going to be a hard one to judge as both riders were riding well and were expected to make the final as Maddo ended up doing and winning.

The other Aussies in the top ten were Jacko Strong, who finished 9th and made a solid impression in his first ever Red Bull X-Fighters event, and right behind him Cam Sinclair rounding out the top ten.

When Cam Sinclair walked out in the intro by himself the crowd erupted showing full respect, it was an emotional moment! gobadirt.com

The next round moves on to London where the course will be a lot bigger and more technical so the riders are going to have to practice hard in between to ensure they bring their A Game if they want a chance at reaching the podium.

Catch you guys back in Oz cyberspace in 12 hours time, cheers Goba.
