As the opening round of the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship gets ready to roll into town on 4-5 April, reigning 2008 Champions Luke George (Kawasaki) and Tye Simmonds (KTM) have been training hard in preparation for the 2009 Series.“I’ve been training really hard in the lead up to this round and being able to ride the Albury Wodonga track at the Media Launch a few weeks ago was a great chance to see how it looked.”
When asked if there was any pressure coming in as the reigning Champ, George wasn’t fazed.
“I love it, it’s all fun, there is a bit more pressure but its all part of the game I guess,” he said.
“The team is working really well with Craig Anderson and Luke Arbon and I can’t wait for the first round!”
Similarly, Simmonds, who took out the 2008 Under 19s Championship class and has now stepped up into the Pro Lites, has been training hard in the pre-season and is looking forward to the challenges of riding in a new class.
“My pre-season has been good,” Simmonds said. “It started over in New Zealand at the end of last year and since then I’ve had a week or two off and have just been riding, training and racing in between.”Stepping up into the Pro Lites class hasn’t been an issue for the young rider, relishing in the longer races. “I’m enjoying riding in the Pro Lites so far, I like the longer motos they suit my riding style but there’s a lot of fast guys in there so it’s not going to be an easy year,” he said. “I think some of the biggest competitors will be definitely Matt Moss, but then there’s my teammate Kade Mosig and Luke George and all the other guys from last year who are still there ready to put up a fight.”
