KTM prepares for Super X battle

Australia’s seven round Monster Energy Super X Championship is set to get underway in Launceston, TAS on Saturday 17 October with our countries best factory riders and overseas guests eager to battle for the ultimate title on the dirt bike calendar.Motorex KTM Racing is leaving no stone unturned in its preparation as the team enters new territory with 17 year old Tye Simmonds from Bourke (NSW), stepping up from the Pro Lites class to compete in the premier Pro Open class, on the KTM 450 SX-F.
Simmonds placed second in the Pro Lites class at the 2008 Super X Championship, but has since outgrown the 250 machine, and is eager to bang bars with the big boys in his first ever Pro Open bout.
Commenting on the racing Tye Simmonds said, “It’s been an awesome journey through my junior racing, and first year as a senior in the Pro Lites, but I’m ready for my next challenge, and I just can’t wait to get amongst it all.
“I have adrenaline pumping through my veins already, and there’s still over a week to go. I’m sure nerves for everyone will set in on race day, but once that gate drops I know it will fade and the battle will begin.
“I’m also excited about the five different race formats the promoters Global Action Sports has introduced, because they will allow for fast and intense battles, giving less experienced riders a chance to go out hard, and mix it with the likes of American Champions Chad Reed, and James ‘Bubba’ Stewart.”
The Monster Energy Super X formats will include Survival, Triple Challenge, Quad Challenge, Round Robin and the Double Header (2 x 10 lap races).
This year will also see the Pro Lites class racing in the formats, and Motorex KTM new comer to Super X, Kade Mosig from Pearcedale (VIC) is confident this will be a weapon for all to challenge last year’s Pro Lites winner Matt Moss.
“All eyes will be on Matt Moss in the Pro Lites, because he won the Super X last year, and just won the 09 Motocross Championship, but with the Pro Lites taking on the five different race formats it’s going to be anyone’s game,” said Mosig. “ Anyone who can get out hard, and fast is in line for a podium.
“My preparation on the KTM 250 SX-F has been going awesome, and I’m feeling very confident. Leading up to the Championship I have spent a week out at Tye Simmonds place in Bourke training and testing, and also with multi-time Australian Champion, Craig Anderson training at his place in Newcastle.
“Back home in Pearcedale I’ve been training with my mates (fellow pro riders) Cheyne Boyd and Brent Landman on our new tracks, and we’re really pushing each other. All this combined with my off the bike training has got me back at a peak level of fitness following injuries earlier in the year, and I’m more than ready to race.”
KTM will also enter World Junior Motocross Champion Jay Wilson, and third place World Junior podium holder Dylan Long in Michelin Development Series at Super X, for 14 and 15 year old Junior Lites Racing. This series will take place at the Geelong, Canberra and Parramatta rounds.
The 2009 Monster Energy Super X Championship is a seven round Australian Championship. Dates and venues include:
