Sheppard stretches ROTY lead to over 100 pts

Gold Coaster Joe Sheppard has extended his Freerider MX Rider Of The Year Award lead to over 100 points as the 2009 season reaches its do-or-die stages.

Shep made the most of his close rival Rhys Hillier’s absence from the final round of the RFDmx Underground Tour in Dili, East Timor by scoring a maximum 100 points for the round. Matt Lindores, who also made the trip to Timor, also capitalised on Rasy’s absence by leapfrogging into second on the ladder.

The next event that counts towards the FRMX ROTY Award is the X-Kings event in Mackay this weekend, and it’s shaping to be the biggest event of the year so far.

However, things are still wide open in the competition stakes, with the Valyside Narrogin RevHeads (WA) on November 14-15, then the Red Bull FMX Battle in Wanganui, New Zealand on December 28, both of which are promising to be high-scoring events in the ROTY stakes.

ABOUT FREERIDER MX'S RIDER OF THE YEAR AWARD

FRMX's FMX Rider of the Year Award is to recognise the amount of dedication some FMX riders put in to attend the majoirty of events held around the country.

Here's how it works: after every FMX competition that's held througout 2009 (excluding FMX Nationals and King Of The Coast) the riders who compete will score points depending on how they placed. The points breakdown for 2009 is like this: 1st - 25pts; 2nd - 22pts; 3rd - 20pts; 4th - 18pts; 5th - 16pts; 6th - 15pts; 7th - 14pts; 8th - 13pts; 9th - 12pts; 10th - 11pts, etc etc.

Now the number of downramps and how much prize-money is offered to first place will determine how many "stars" each event will be worth. We will award one star for every down-ramp and one star for every $1000 the winner receives in prize-money. If an event has, say, two down-ramps and $2000 for the winner, it'll be a four-star event, and points will be multiplied four times. In this case, the winner will receive 100 points (25pts x 4 stars).
