Local Gillespie scores wildcard to MX Rd 1

With her 2008 victory still fresh in everyone’s minds, Gillespie will ride alongside the guys in the Pro Lites class, giving her the perfect opportunity to sharpen her skills in preparation for the Women’s Championship later in the year.

“It was a big relief to finally win it last year, and it’s something I want to hold onto,” Gillespie said. “For me accepting a wildcard entry will be great training for the Women’s Nationals, Macca (Glen MacDonald) is bringing up my mechanic and he’ll have the truck and my new race bike there, so it’ll all be geared towards the Women’s later in the year.”

For the Albury local, supporting her local club and hometrack played a big part in her decision to accept the wildcard entry.

“Being from the local area, it’s a great way for me to help promote the sport here,” she said. “The sport is not very mainstreame, but over the last couple of years it’s been getting more and more coverage in the local media so if I can help and get the sport out there then that’s great. I know I’m not going to go out there and smoke everyone, but it’ll certainly be good practice.”

With Australia’s best Motocross riders taking to the track in the Championship opener this is one event not to be missed.
