Clinton Moore – X Games 16 Debut
The X Games phenomenon revolutionised the alternate sports from an unknown entity of free thinking misfits who don’t want to win races, but become the main attraction by performing stunts which grant them the notoriety they were aspiring too.
16 years on from the first X Games event and ESPN, the largest sports channel in the world has taken the action sports market and turned it into a professional market where careers are found and dreams are made.
This year, Clinton Moore, 22 from Bundaberg in Australia is competing for the first time after having a whirlwind year to date. Moore has impressed the right people when he performed at the sold out Nitro Circus Live tour shows with the new body varial trick, the Volt.
Moore has somewhat made the trick his own, performing it over the 75 foot gap in somewhat an effortless manner and on a consistent basis. At the Red Bull X-Fighters in Madrid, Spain less than one week ago Clinton was the first rider in the world to perform the Volt during a full Freestyle run.
“The one thing I wanted to do here in Spain was to land a Volt in my run, and I did it easier than I thought. You don’t know if you’re going to land the volt until after you’ve come off the lip. Sometimes the bike stays with you, and sometimes you float away” Moore said.
“Now that X-Fighters is over I’m concentrating on X Games and I can’t wait to try something new. I showed I’m not a one trick wonder in Madrid by doing the Volt in a run with 360’s and backflip combo’s and now I can hopefully push the boundaries with something new in Best Trick.”
Clinton hasn’t had it easy though, from Spain to LA his bags with his freestyle specific suspension, flip levers and foot hooks, gear, boots and helmets all went missing when they didn’t show up. Followed soon after by finding the bike he was to ride didn’t arrive also which made things mentally tough for the X Games debutant.
“We managed to find a bike and I borrowed one off of a legend of the sport, Tommy Clowers. He had a Yamaha YZ250 that he was able to lend me and now I’m back on track and going to train for one day in a foam pit here in the US and see if I can come up with something new” Moore said.
August 30, Clinton Moore will be performing at the X Games Best Trick competition in the Staples Centre, Los Angeles and it’s only a matter of days now until we see what tricks he has been working on in the lead up to the biggest event in action sports in the world.
Clinton Moore is supported by FlightPath Materials, Osiris, No Fear, M2R, Dragon, FMF, Sidi boots, Asterisk, Tag, Motul, RK Chains, JT Sprockets and Choice Suspension.
